Day 08 - A photo that makes you angry/sad

Granny "up on the hill"

Granny Bertha

Daddy

Danny
This post my need some 'splanin, considering it's a post about photos that make me angry/sad and there are pictures of my loved ones. I have written about this before. If you want to read it, you can do so here.  Honestly, I HATE cancer. Who doesn't, though, right? Everyone has been affected by it in some form. It just seems to keep on and on and ON with my freakin' family. Leave us alone, already! I'm so tired of people that I love and am close to dying. I hate death. I know that it is a fact of life and that it is inevitable. It sure as hell doesn't make it any easier. I'm SO lucky to still have my Daddy here. He had prostate cancer several years ago. One of the scariest moments of my life. Hands Down. Hearing my Momma tell me that my Daddy had the "C" word. I tried to be strong for them both, but that was so hard for me to do. I fell apart. I fell apart hard core at home by myself. I would have breakdowns {big ugly cries} at night mostly, when I was trying to sleep. He was so lucky that he could have a surgery that removed all of the cancer and it had not spread anywhere else.

I try so hard not to take the time I have with anyone I love for granted. Things get busy and I get lazy in keeping in touch and calling. It never means that I care any less or not at all.

I've totally slacked this weekend on my 30 Day Blog Challenge. I thought I'd catch you up right here with three days in one post.

Day 6: Your day in 6 words

Great girl time, shopping, food, napping.

Day 5: Your favorite quote

I've always loved quotes. I used to have them as border around my bedroom in college. Sometimes the right quote will help you get through a tough time in your life. There are so many that I love. This one though, is one of my favorites, "I don't pretend what love is for everyone. But I can tell you what it is for me. Love is knowing all about someone and still wanting to be with them more than anyone else. Love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you are ashamed of. Love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak in the knees when they walk in the room and smile at you." It just makes me happy and hopeful about love.

Day 4: Your favorite book

I read a lot, so this one is a little hard for me. I have 2 favorites that I could read over and over, I think. Oddly enough, they have both been made into movies. I loved the books WAY more than the movies and I read them before I watched the movies.

The first is The Lovely Bones. I read this book several years ago. I had gotten out of reading for quite some time. My parents used to take me to the library as a small child. {I can still picture the public library in Mechanicsville, VA}. When we moved back to KY, they kinda stopped going and I started high school and didn't read anymore. In college, I went to the beach with my friend Candice and her family. I borrowed The Lovely Bones from her to read at the beach. I have been hooked back on reading ever since. If you have never read this book, I really suggest it. It's emotional and you really might cry, but it's so great!

The second favorite is Message in a Bottle. Hands down my favorite Nicholas Sparks book and I couldn't even make it through that movie. He writes such good love stories!

Day 03 - Favorite TV Show

Man. This is the hardest post. I saw this on the list and contemplated changing it for my sake! If you need to know ONE thing about me, please know that I am a TV ADDICT. I mean, it's bad. I have a show for every night of the week. Summers are rough, because it's all reruns. Thank goodness for movie theaters and cocktail hour! On to my favorite TV show. I don't have one favorite. I love so many shows. I'm going to break some bloggy rules and give you a whole run down. :) Just so you'll understand the craziness that is my DVR.

Let's start with old shows that have had their series come to an end. I own some of these box sets and watch on a regular basis {or I catch re-runs}.

1) Gilmore Girls. These ladies talk fast and use "Gilmore-isms". I love me some Luke. Pretty easy on the eyes. Everytime I watch I want to drink lots and lots of coffee, eat really unhealthy and talk super, super fast.
2) Sex and the City. I'll admit...and be prepared to have your mind blown. I didn't like this show when it was on television. I tried to watch some episodes and just didn't get it or enjoy it. When I met my friend Deb a few years ago, she would always quote SATC or she would always refer to a funny episode. I admitted to not liking the show and she called shennanigans! I borrowed her box sets and now I love it! I started with the 2nd season and now am the proud owner of the whole series. I guess at the time when I was trying to watch, I was too young and didn't relate to them. I totally relate now {aside from the glamour of living in NYC}. It's hard to pick a favorite character or episode. I love so many of the episodes or at least little tidbits. Like when Miranda eats cake out of the trash can. Awesome. Also, who can't relate to a Mr. Big/Aidan in your life? I'm all for Aidan. Even though Big turns out OKAY in the end...he was still a jerk to Carrie over and over and over again. When you've actually got a "Mr. Big" in your own life, he doesn't seem as glamorous.

3) LOST. I was on the bandwagon. Hard. Core. Loved that show and will forever be the show that made me go, "WHAT THE CRAP?!?!" at the end of each and every glorious episode. Seriously. Love. I didn't watch from the beginning, but I had a friend who lent me a few box sets. Hooked. I watched without fail every time it was on. I had friends who knew not to call me while LOST was on. I would not be answering your phone call. Not even during a commercial. Too much processing going on. Besides that, Sawyer was pretty easy on the eyes. And clever. Love me a clever man.

There were other characters on the show, but I had to share the beautifulness that are his dimples. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

4) How I Met Your Mother. I mentioned this in a post previously. Maybe more than once, even. Such a great show! I don't even know what to compare it to. I've heard people compare it to Friends. I wouldn't go so far as to say that. Friends is in a category all in it's own. Great stuff. HIMYM makes me laugh out loud, even when I'm by myself at home. It also has its serious moments. I actually cried at the last episode that was on TV. In case you are behind, I will not give a spoiler, but I cried. {FYI: I cry more at TV and movies than I do my real life}.

*For the rest of the list, you will only get the titles. :)
5) Friends. Duh.
6) Dexter (recent obsession with the show and the man)
7) Modern Family
8) The Middle
*I also love watching The Bachelor, Amazing Race, Jersey Shore, Arrested Development, Greys Anatomy, So You Think You Can Dance...See? It's a sickness. It's why this post was so difficult.

Day 02 - Favorite Movie

Friends, most of you already know this about me. I LOVE ridiculous movies. I mean, Will Ferrell is my favorite actor. Eva. I'd marry that man in a New York minute. He's not the easiest on the eyes. BUT, his humor is the best and it makes me so attracted to him. His body is so strange and mis-shapen, but he rocks it naked in so many of his movies. Humor and confidence go a loooooong way, people.

My favorite movie of all time does not have Will Ferrell in it, however. It's still one of those ridiculous humor movies. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good chick flick as much as the next girl. But nothing beats Waynes World. I remember watching this movie as a young kid. Then as I got a little older, my friend Nikki and I would quote the movie back and forth. I'm not convinced that we couldn't quote the entire movie if challenged. Seriously.

"If it's a severed head, I'm going to be very upset."

Happy Wednesday and 6th day off in a row for me! {Thanks to the snow}

Day 01 - Favorite Song

I've put some thought into this post. Choosing ONE favorite song is so difficult. Especially when you are me and you love every genre of music that there is. All in all, I have to say that this song, Grey Street by Dave Matthews Band is my favorite that I choose to share tonight. This song has special meaning to me. I also got to see Dave play this live in Louisville. AH-MAZING. Fo reals. Your ears will thank you after listening. Promise.

"Oh look at how she listens
She says nothing of what she thinks
She just goes stumbling through her memories
Staring out on to Grey Street.

She thinks, "Hey, how did I come to this?"
I dream myself a thousand times around the world
But I can't get out of this place.

There's an emptiness inside her
And she'll do anything to fill it in
But all the colors mix together - to grey
And it breaks her heart

How she wishes it was different
She prays to God most every night
And though she swears it doesn't listen
There's still a hope in her it might
She says "I pray, oh But they fall on deaf ears,
am I supposed to take it on myself?
To get out of this place? "

Oh There's a loneliness inside her
And she'll do anything to fill it in
And though it's red blood bleeding from her now
It feels like cold blue ice in her heart
When all the colors mix together - to grey
And it breaks her heart

There's a stranger speaks outside her door
Says take what you can from your dreams
Make them as real as anything
Oh It'd take the work out of the courage
But she says "Please
There's a crazy man that's creeping outside my door,
I live on the corner of Grey Street
and the end of the world."

Oh there's an emptiness inside her
And she'll do anything to fill it in
And though it's red blood bleeding from her now
It's more like cold blue ice in her heart
She feels like kicking out all the windows
And setting fire to this life
She could change everything about her
Using colors bold and bright
But all the colors mix together - to grey
And it breaks her heart
It breaks her heart
To Grey"
{And now a sampling of the pictures from my Dave experiences}
